Treason Charge Against Charles Okah Is Baseless Says Justice Gabriel Kolawole

Charles Okah
The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the treason charge against Charles Okah.
Okah is facing trial for allegedly masterminding the 2010 Independence Day Bombing in Abuja.
He leads the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) - the group which claimed responsibility for the blast.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole struck out the treason charge for lack of evidence.
Kolawole said although former President Goodluck Jonathan was at the venue - Eagle Square – as at the time, there was no evidence that he was the target.
The judge noted that there was no evidence to prove that Jonathan was sneaked out of the venue.
The judge said the evidence cited by the prosecution failed to prove that governors who attended a meeting on March 15, 2010 in Warri, Delta State - where another blast occurred - were also intimidated.
Okah’s no-case submission was however dismissed by the court.
Okah will, going forward, face only terrorism charge.
