The rate at which Nigerians are committing suicide is becoming quite alarming, especially those who choose the option of jumping into the lagoon and drowning.
In the past two weeks, there have been more than three people who have been rescued by the police in the state while attempting to commit suicide while the unlucky ones like a medical doctor, Allwell Orji, was not that lucky when he took that fatal plunge into the lagoon on Sunday, March 19, 2017.
Another
woman was rescued the next day by local fishermen at the Maza-Maza
Bridge in the Mile 2 area of the state after she jumped into the river
while on Friday, March 23, 2017, a woman identified as Taiwo Titilayo Momoh was rescued by the Lagos State Police Command during an attempt to jump into the lagoon from Third Mainland Bridge.
Nasir
who posted the incident on his Facebook page said the man had walked
casually on the bridge and was just about jumping off when a police
patrol team swiftly rescued him and saved him from killing himself.
There
was another twist to the new development as Nasir said that an Ifa
Priest has attributed the incessant suicides to the fact that the lagoon
is angry and a sacrifice is required to appease it.
This is what Nasir wrote:
"Yet
another suicide attempt at the Lagos lagoon today. He was rescued
before he could take the plunge. An Ifa Priest has said in a national
daily that the Lagoon is Angry. How do we appease the Lagoon please?"
